Marcel Sydney’s founder David Nobay to depart

David Nobay, the founder of Publicis-owned creative agency Marcel Sydney, is set to depart after four years.

Nobay, who was previously the creative chairman at Droga5 Australia, set up the Sydney branch of Publicis Groupe’s Marcel in 2015. At the time, Nobay brought over Droga5′s last remaining client, Tiger Beer, to set up the new shop.

David Nobay is set to depart Marcel later this month

Tiger Beer, which was Marcel’s biggest account, remained a client with Marcel Sydney until August last year when the agency’s CEO Gavin Levinsohn departed.

Mumbrella understands Tiger Beer was seeking a local agency and is now working with Publicis Singapore.

Nobay is departing the agency to launch a new venture with production company Fin Design & Effects.

Prior to his eight year stint at Droga5, Nobay was an ECD at Publicis Groupe’s Saatchi & Saatchi for five years.

When the underperforming Droga5 Australia closed in September 2015, Nobay was accused by former colleagues of taking his eye off the ball and pursuing his own vanity projects.

Prior to his eight year stint at Droga5, Nobay was an ECD at Publicis Groupe’s Saatchi & Saatchi for five years.

Nick Law, CCO Publicis Groupe, said in a statement: “Nobby is a great bloke, who consistently does great work. (Amazingly, over the years I’ve known him, he’s also managed to shed a ton of weight without losing his infamous talent and energy.) I look forward to buying him a Perrier somewhere in the world as he continues his extraordinary career.”

Nobay’s exit from Marcel Sydney comes five months after its head of production Holly Alexander moved across to CHE Proximity and nine months after its ECD Scott Huebscher departed.

Marcel Sydney’s clients include Maggi, Rio Tinto, Foxtel and Tinder.
