Ex HuffPost boss JJ Eastwood to run affiliate marketing agency Rakuten

Former HuffPost Australia CEO JJ Eastwood has been appointed APAC managing director of digital marketing agency Rakuten, the company announced today.

Eastwood left HuffPost Australia after owner Oath ended its joint venture with Fairfax Media, leading to most of the local staff being culled.

JJ Eastwood will lead affiliate marketing firm Rakuten

Prior to joining Huffpost in 2016, Eastwood was managing director of programmatic operation Rocket Fuel after a number of senior commercial roles for eBay.

Eastwood replaces former managing director Anthony Capano who has moved to London to lead Rakuten’s European operations. Capano held the Australian position since 2013.

“JJ’s passion for the digital landscape and e-commerce, sees him bring valuable expertise in digital product innovation, e-commerce and programmatic advertising,” said Capano in a media statement.

“He has the capability to draw on these skills to drive growth and performance for his clients, and provide guidance and leadership to our teams throughout the region”,

Eastwood will also be responsible for expanding the company’s Asia-Pacific network.

“Rakuten Marketing is uniquely positioned between two of the fastest growing industries in Asia-Pacific, ecommerce and digital advertising, so it is an incredibly exciting time to be joining the business”, said Eastwood.

“I am looking forward to building on the great work that Anthony and the Asia-Pacific team has already done, and rolling out new product offerings that will further solidify Rakuten Marketing as an industry leader.”
