Married at First Sight beats My Kitchen Rules in overnight ratings

Married at First Sight has beaten the reigning reality ratings champion My Kitchen Rules for the first time this season, attracting 1.024m viewers, helping Nine to win the night.


The controversial reality show knocked MKR out from its top spot, improving from last week’s 920,000 viewers. It was also the most-watched program across key advertising demographics (16-39, 18-49 and 25-54), according to OzTAM’s overnight preliminary metro ratings.

My Kitchen Rules achieved 1.023m viewers, down from last week’s 1.401m. The overnight numbers mark the first time since 2014 the program has been beaten in its time slot.

Also airing in the competitive 7:30pm time slot was Ten’s I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!, which averaged 756,000 viewers, up from last week’s 737,000.

Nine’s Married At First Sight helped Nine to win its first night of the official ratings period with 22.3% audience share, just scraping in to beat Seven’s share of 22.2%. Ten finished the night at 13.5%, ABC at 10.2% and SBS at 4.6%

Seven’s 800 Words, airing at 9:00pm, drew 647,000 – down from 737,000 last week, while Nine’s Travel Guides topped the time slot to pull 650,000.

In the 6:00pm news battle for the evening, Seven managed 1m ahead of Nine News’ 956,000 and at 6:30pm Seven averaged 984,000 ahead of Nine’s 939,000.
