Masterchef ties with Nine News to be the most-watched show as Ten beats Nine in share
On a quiet night in TV Ten’s reality cooking show Masterchef was the most-watched non-news show of the evening, grabbing 1.01m metro viewers in the 7.30pm timeslot.
Ten claimed second place in terms of audience share with a share of 16.1 per cent, behind Seven’s winning share of 20.8 per cent. Nine settled for third place with a share of 15.9 per cent while the ABC posted a share of 12.4 per cent despite a special Q&A on LBTIQ rights which was well down on the usual Monday audiences.
When secondary channels are accounted for, Nine claimed second place with a total share of 25.5 per cent, ahead of Ten’s total share of 21.6 per cent.
Masterchef was the most-watched show across the key advertising demographics (16-39, 18-49 and 25-54).
Also in the 7.30pm timeslot Nine’s Blinging up Baby was watched by 175,000 in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. Top Gear in Sydney and Brisbane was watched by 257,000.
On Seven, the AFL in Melbourne and Adelaide grabbed 509,000 viewers. While in Sydney, Perth and Brisbane, The Secret Life of Cats, airing from 8pm, pulled in 369,000 viewers.
The ABC’s Q&A special covering LGBTIQ rights and marriage equality, airing from 9.30pm, was watched by 355,000. It followed on from Between a Frock and a Hard Place, a documentary on Priscilla Queen of the Desert, which was watched by 498,000.
The Checkout, on from 8pm, had an audience of 568,000.
In the news battleground, Nine News at 6pm was watched by 1.01m, tying with Masterchef for the most-watched program of the evening. It dipped to 977,000 at 6.30pm.
Seven News at 6pm grabbed 894,000, sliding to 883,000 from 6.30pm.

Masterchef was the most-watched non-news show of the evening, pulling in 1.01m metro viewers to tie with Nine News.
As mentioned above, Masterchef was also the most-watched show across the key advertising demos, including the 25-54 age group.

Don’t worry about what one is trying to tell the other, rather be worried that, of all the programming of all the major telecasters, Masterchef and Nine News are what the majority of viewers prefer to watch.
