Mathew Eggleston named content director at 2Day FM

Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) stalwart Mathew ‘Eggo’ Eggleston has been promoted to the role of 2Day FM content director.

Eggleston has been with the network for 13 years, getting his start at NXFM (now Hit Newcastle). He moves from his current role of head of Hit metro operations, where he also looked after regional content for the Hit Network.

Announcing his promotion, head of the Hit Network, Gemma Fordham, said ‘Eggo’ has “2Day FM in his blood.”

“His true passion for the station and brand is obvious and he will inject his enthusiasm into the 2Day product and shows.

“It’s an exciting time for 2Day with our new The Morning Crew with Hughesy, Ed and Erin breakfast show and we are looking forward to having Eggo on the team.”

Having started as an announcer and music director at NXFM, ‘Eggo’ has worked all around Australia as part of the Hit Network, including in Adelaide as music director and announcer for SAFM, and as music director and announcement at Fox FM in Melbourne.

He first worked at 2Day FM when he landed a national music director role out of Sydney in 2012, which he held for four years.

From there, his talent was recognised with a promotion to content director of Hit105 (now B105) in Brisbane, helping the station to multiple #1 ratings results both overall and on the Stav, Abby and Matt breakfast show.

‘Eggo’ moved back to Sydney in 2019 for a national operations role, and has held various roles since then.

Of his appointment, Eggleston said: “When it comes to radio, 2DayFM was always the dream as a young kid growing up in Newcastle. I’ve had the pleasure of working here on multiple occasions already over my time in radio, but nothing compares to getting the keys to the station as the content director.

“I’m looking forward to leading this talented team and I’m excited to get started.”

2Day FM’s The Morning Crew had a promising start to the year, with an early upwards nudge in the first ratings book of 2021. That was followed by a slip in survey two, and eyes will remain on the program in the next survey.
