M&C Saatchi nabs TAB’s creative account

M&C Saatchi has won the creative account for TAB, Mumbrella can reveal.

Incumbent agency Clemenger BBDO Sydney won TAB’s creative account in 2016 after the betting company moved its creative account away from TBWA Sydney.

TAB has appointed M&C Saatchi as its creative agency of record

Mumbrella understands M&C Saatchi won the account without a pitch at the conclusion of last year.

The win helped M&C Saatchi finish a strong year as the agency had also recently won one of the biggest creative accounts in the country, Tourism Australia.

M&C Saatchi also won the Tourism Australia account from its incumbent agency Clemenger BBDO Sydney.

TAB’s account move came three months after Luke Waldren joined the betting company as its executive general manager of marketing and customer.

Waldren was previously the general manager of marketing at Sportsbet. During his time at Sportsbet, Waldren worked with creative agency BMF.

In October 2017, the former ECD at BMF, Cam Blackley, joined M&C Saatchi as its chief creative officer.

Waldren said the brand was excited about the partnership.

“We’ve been working with the team at M&C Saatchi for the past couple of months and have seen first hand their capabilities. We’re extremely excited about the partnership and the work we can do together.

Blackley added: “It’s a category I’ve a keen interest in and a brand Australia has grown up with. Needless to say the whole team is hugely excited in the creative potential of this Aussie icon.”

Russell Hopson, managing director at M&C Saatchi Group, said TAB is a “great Australian brand”.

“The opportunity to work with Luke and his team as it goes through this next phase is thrilling,” he said.

Commonwealth Bank, Lexus, Tourism Australia and Woolworths are all clients of M&C Saatchi.

Clemenger BBDO Sydney’s clients include Visa, Hungry Jacks, Extra, Qantas, Masterfoods, GE, V Energy and Pepsico.

Clemenger BBDO Sydney declined to comment.
