McCann Sydney integrates SMART into agency, appoints Leo Burnett’s Iggy Rodriguez and Justin Carew

Leo Burnett Sydney’s creative group heads Justin Carew and Iggy Rodriguez have joined McCann Sydney as creative directors.

McCann Sydney has also integrated its other advertising outfit SMART into the agency.

Rodriguez and Carew have already started working with the agency

Former McCann Australia CEO Ben Lilley joined the agency after selling his agency, SMART, to McCann in 2011.

SMART’s clients, including Mirvac, Sheridan and Van Heusen, will now be serviced by McCann Sydney, while SMART’s staff will work with McCann Sydney’s clients.

The SMART brand will now become part of McCann Sydney.

The appointments comes just one week after the agency announced DDB’s CEO, Nicole Taylor, would become its national CEO, replacing Lilley, who left the agency to relocate to France.

Rodriguez and Carew have worked with clients including Samsung, Diageo, Coca-Cola and McDonald’s.

Rodriguez said it is a great time to be joining the agency.

“From a global perspective, the leadership is really making an impact and locally Jerker [Jerker Fagerström, executive creative director, McCann Sydney] and the Sydney team have already been doing some great work so I’m excited to roll the sleeves up and help take them even further.”

Carew agreed saying the agency had a great energy and he is excited to build on the momentum.

Jerker Fagerstrom, ECD at McCann Sydney, said in a statement: “It’s not often you’re fortunate enough to find a team as talented as Iggy and Justin who can inspire everyone else around them. And to top it off they are both genuinely nice guys.”

Pat Baron, CCO at McCan Sydney, added: “It is a really exciting time for McCann Sydney, we are seeing some of our best work on our biggest clients come out of the agency so the growth of the team is a great start to the year. Attracting talent such as Iggy and Justin is testament to McCann Sydney’s growing reputation and the work that is coming out of the agency.”
