McGuire to lead coverage of Winter Olympics
Eddie McGuire and Ken Sutcliffe will lead Nine’s coverage of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.
The 17 day event, which will commence with the live broadcast of the opening ceremony on 13 February next year, will see McGuire hosting the prime-time coverage from Vacouver, while Sutcliffe will present the daily live coverage.
Nine presenters Leila McKinnon and Cameron Williams will also keep viewers up to date will results and news from the Games throughout the day and night.
They will be backed by a team of reporters and commentators including Olympic gold medallist Alisa Camplin, cricket and AFL commentator James Brayshaw, three-time Australian snowboard champion Jay Onley, and Australia’s first gold medalist at an Olympic Winter Games Steven Bradbury.
If this was Italy, Eddie would probably have been President/PM for a few years by now. This is not a reference to priapic inclinations, but rather to his apparent crusade to dominate all facets of our media. Politics may next be part of his Orson Welles-scale agenda. However, the large player on the political stage is prone to criticism more blunt than customer ratings. This should not deter Eddie as it brings into play what I consider his real (possibly sub-conscious)forte; humbling and belittling those around him.
