Meat Free Week asks Aussies to go veggie
A campaign has launched to raise awareness of Meat Free Week, a period where Australians are encouraged to go without meat, from 18 – 24 March.
The campaign aims to raise awareness around the practices behind factory farming, and is being led by former NewsLifeMedia executive Melissa Dixon and Pacific Magazines ad director Lainie Bracher.
The animated ad was created pro bono by The Precinct Studios.
The campaign, which includes the website Meatfreeweek.com, is also being backed by TV presenter Laura Csortan, actor Krew Boylan and former magazine editor Deborah Hutton.

I like the idea of introducing a “meat free week” and I’m not a vegetarian. However, I felt the execution fell a little flat.
Plus:
– Aimed at Aussies, but used an American barn.
– The animals are shown in a field, essentially free-range. (Isn’t the whole premise to point out they are caged and treated appallingly? Could they have used bars to point out the issue?)
– The cow is disappointed that the pig wasn’t taken to the big field in the sky. (Yes, I get they were using the humour angle, but surely the copy should always reflect the goals of the cause.)
On a positive note: I loved the voiceovers!

This is not getting enough exposure. This is my demographic and I only just heard about it.

Thought this might have been a vego love in but agree that farming needs to change.
Maybe they can get Allan Savory to help reshape the approach?
He gave an amazing TED Talk on using livestock to reverse climate change –
“We can take enough carbon out of the atmosphere…to take us back to pre industrial levels” (link below if you have a spare 20 minutes)

Terrible execution – who exactly is the target here: kindergarten kids? Just because some of the animals in question may be fluffy it doesn’t mean the awareness piece has to fluff too.
Not only is this also the first I’ve heard of Meat Free Week – this does absolutely nothing to communicate a worthy message and concept.
