Media Writer Sally Jackson to leave The Australian

Respected media writer Sally Jackson is to depart The Australian after more than 12 years on the media section.

Jackson is best-known in the industry for her coverage of the magazine and newspaper sector, but announced this morning she is taking voluntary redundancy, tweeting: “So I have news: I’m leaving the @australian! Finish next week. Have absolutely loved my time in newspapers. But excited for the next thing.”

She has previously also worked for The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph reporting on news, business, state politics and sport and as a feature writer.

Jackson is one of a number of significant departures from The Australian’s media section in recent years. A 2012 round of redundancies saw the departure of The Australian’s marketing writer Simon Canning and television writer Amanda Meade.

Media editor Nick Tabakoff left the national broadsheet for a senior role with Commonwealth Bank late last year while former media diarist and subsequent media editor Nick Leys departed the section in February for a corporate affairs role with the ABC.

Leys was replaced by former Cleo magazine editor Sharri Markson.
