Mediacom’s Stef Burford becomes chief strategy officer of UM as Johnson and Isaac move into Mediabrands roles

Media agency UM has hired Mediacom strategy director Stefan Burford as its chief strategy officer alongside a number of senior moves within parent company Mediabrands.

The move will see Burford reunited with UM CEO Mat Baxter who previously worked at Mediacom.

Burford – who replaces Daniel Isaac – was last year named as B&T magazine’s young achiever of the year.

Isaac will become commercial director of Mediabrands Victoria. Mediabrands include media agencies UM and Initiative and search operation Reprise.

Meanwhile, Travis Johnson, MD of UM Sydney, will become commercial director of Mediabrands NSW.

Wendy Gower, group director at UM, has been appointed general manager of UM Sydney and replaces Johnson.

Henry Tajer, executive chairman of Mediabrands Australia, said: “Daniel and Travis are two of our most experienced and effective executives with proven success records. They have already delivered significant value to Mediabrands businesses and have led many clients into broader communications areas that have deepened our business relationships and positively impacted their business results.”

Baxter said, “I had the privilege to work alongside Stefan at MediaCom and he’s without a doubt the best strategist I’ve worked with. It’s probably not a big surprise that I’m thrilled we’ve got someone with such enormous talent to come and lead UM’s strategic product.”
