Melbourne gets second talk station with Steve Price at helm

Melbourne’s talk radio market is to see a major shake-up with a new station to launch within months, it was finally confirmed today.

The new station will be fronted by Steve Price, who resigned from Sydney station 2UE. It will be a joint venture between  Macquarie Radio Network and Pacific Star Network.

It will take over the signal currently broadcasting as easy listening music station 3MP but will have a new name.   Price will take a “prime” slot and oversee programming when his 2UE contract expires at the end of the month.

MRN Chairman Russell Tate will also chair the joint venture company.he said:  “MRN has been interested in doing this for some years. We’ve always believed that there is a place in the Melbourne market for two commercial talk stations, and that there is a real opportunity to present to Melbourne a broader choice of listening alternatives.”

“One of the key factors in the timing of our decision to launch was the availability and subsequent signing of Steve Price. Steve was keen to return home to Melbourne and the audience which made him synonymous with talk radio. We are very fortunate to have Steve with his intimate knowledge of the Melbourne market.”

Before his Sydney stint Price was at 3AW, currently Melbourne’s only commercial talk station.
