CI Studios changes ownership in Melbourne, Sydney operation up for sale

New CI Studios owners: Carlos Alcaide, Nicky Finlay, Richard Wilson

The ownership of Melbourne-based commercial photography firm CI Studios has changed hands after 20 years of stewardship by founders Paul and Barry Hickman.

Former staffers Carlos Alcaide and Richard Wilson, and former stakeholder Nicky Finlay, have acquired the Melbourne business for an undisclosed sum.

The Sydney operation remains up for sale.

Barry Hickman told Mumbrella that he is looking to leave the commercial photography business to pursue a career in property development, and is listening to offers for CI Studios Sydney.

The acquisition sees the Melbourne studio – which counts Marmelade, JWT and BMF among its agency clients – move locations, from Stephenson Street to Gwynne Street in Richmond.

“We work very closely with our clients throughout the whole production process from start to finish, and have kept this in mind with the new studio design, said Nicky Finlay in a press statement. “We’re really looking forward to creating a studio that clients feel 100% comfortable in.”

“We’ll be advising clients and friends well in advance of the official launch date,” said Finlay. “And of course, there’ll be one hell of a party.”
