Melbourne Radio Ratings: Smooth the big riser, with Gold the new drive leader

Nova Entertainment’s Smooth FM was the main beneficiary from GfK radio ratings survey three of the year, as it rose 1.7 percentage points to land on a 9% overall share.

Nine Radio’s 3AW again remained the market leader in the nation’s largest metro radio market, with a 14.7% share, dropping back 0.4 points from the last book, while ARN’s Gold FM also retained its position as the FM market leader, moving the dial by 0.1 point to a 11.5% share overall.

The survey period was between 27 Feb to 2 April and 17 April to 21 May.

After a strong showing in survey two, Fox FM dropped back from its 9.6% share, to sit on a 8.8% share overall, good for fourth overall in the market, just behind Smooth FM.

Despite a small dip in overall share, the breakfast duo on 3AW, Russel and Ross gained share in their slot, rising half a point to land on a 19.1% share. ABC Melbourne’s Sammy J recovered some lost ground in recent surveys, gaining 0.3 points to settle on a 9% share.

Christian O’Connell and Gold are the market leaders for FM stations

Gold’s Christian O’Connell remained number two at breakfast with a 10% share, while Nova’s Chrissie, Sam, and Browny were narrowly ahead of Fox’s Fifi, Fev, and Nick on 8.9% and 8.7% respectively.

For Nova overall, there was little movement, with the station gaining 0.1 points, to stick on 7.5% overall share this book.

SCA’s Triple M had a boost in overall share, up to 6%, as well as breakfast show Marty Sheargold seeing a 1 point rise to a 5.5% share, and the drive slot up 0.8 points to 6.2% overall. The recovery is a positive step for the network, which implemented local drive shows nationally at the start of the year, replacing the departed Mick Molloy.

ARN’s KIIS breakfast team, Jase and Lauren dropped back 0.9 points to a 5.4% share.
