Melbourne to host global sport summit

Melbourne will host SportNXT, a global sport summit, from 17 to 19 November 2021.

The announcement:

The Victorian Government together with leaders of Australian sport today announced the launch of SportNXT, a global sport thought and leadership summit to be staged in Melbourne on November 17-19, 2021.

SportNXT’s purpose is to bring global industry leaders together to create, share and connect while creating a platform for Australian businesses to share their stories with a global audience, boosted by the support of the Global Victoria network.

SportNXT Chairman Eddie McGuire said: “The SportNXT vision is to create the “Davos of sport. A unique opportunity to gather the best and brightest minds from around the world to share ideas about the future of the sports industry.

“SportNXT seeks to identify the challenges and opportunities playing out in the sports business landscape; plotting the responses required to maximise success in the future.

“Within these discussions, we will showcase the leading IP from the sports industry in Melbourne and across Australia whilst providing a forum to take these services to the world.”

Victorian Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Martin Pakula said: “SportNXT will provide the perfect opportunity to promote our sports sector and the scores of innovators who make it a standout on the world stage.”

The global sport summit will be held during the same week of the rescheduled Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix 2021, and will see an impressive list of global thought leaders participate in discussion via live video, including:

  • Adam Silver – NBA Commissioner
  • Megan Rapinoe – Captain, US Women’s National Soccer Team
  • Lord Sebastian Coe – President, World Athletics and IOC Member
  • Ricardo Fort – Former Global Head of Sponsorship, Coca Cola
  • Andrew Georgiou – President, Eurosport
  • Greg Barclay – Chairman, International Cricket Council
  • Stephen Evans – Managing Director, Silver Lake
  • Florent Gutierrez – Chief Marketing Officer, Team Vitality esports; former Red Bull International Head of esports and Gaming Marketing

Leaders of Australia’s sport and media industries are also due to attend and participate in the SportNXT summit in November, including:
