Melissa Doyle ‘to quit Sunrise’

Sunrise co-host Melissa Doyle could quit the breakfast show as early as January next year, according to reports.

A story in yesterday’s Sunday Telegraph centred on Doyle’s contract negotiations at Seven, during which she is believed to have ‘shopped around’ at other networks.

Rumours of Doyle’s departure have been fueled by her appearance on Sunday Night.

Doyle, who was nominated for a logie for most popular presenter this year, is believed to be tired of the breakfast-time shift and wants a primetime position.

In the battle for breakfast audiences, Sunrise has been largely dominant over Nine’s Today in the ratings this year, despite a resurgence by the latter following the logie win of Today presenter Karl Stefanovic.

The news comes just a few weeks after Andrew Rochford, the host of Ten’s soon-to-launch early morning show Breakfast, called Australian breakfast television “tired”.
