The announcement:

Carat has appointed Michael Hyde as Head of Business Strategy in Melbourne. In the newly created role, Mike will head a team of 12 dedicated strategists working across all Carat clients and will also lead business strategy for the agency.

Mike joins from Clemenger BBDO, where he led strategy on multiple award-winning campaigns including Four ‘N’ Twenty Pies’ Magic Salad Plate and the Guide Dogs Australia ‘Support Scent’ project.

He has experience across virtually every client category including financial services, insurance, FMCG, automotive, not-for-profit, government and retail, and most recently developed the highly successful strategy to launch BUPA in Australia.

Simon Ryan, Managing Director of Carat Melbourne, said Mike’s appointment was a significant boost to the agency’s strategic offering.

“Mike joins us with fantastic credentials in strategy development and will play a key role in leading our strategy team, which with a dozen strategists is one of the largest within an Australian media agency,” said Simon.

“He has a track record in developing clever strategy that cuts through to deliver business results for brands. He’ll be part of the core leadership team at Carat Melbourne with an important role to play in the development of our own business and offering, as well as that of our clients.”

Mike said of his appointment: “I’ve known Simon and many of his team for a long time, and am thrilled to be joining them. Their strategic offering is very strong with a consumer-led approach that I wholeheartedly believe in. I’m looking forward to adding value through my own skills and experience, and also to helping shape the strategy of the agency moving forward.”

Carat Melbourne has had a strong year, increasing billings by more than $90 million (40%) in 12 months with major clients wins including GM Holden and growing to more than 80 staff.
