Michael Thomson returns to Channel 9 as new head of sport for STW9

Channel Nine Perth managing director, David Mott has announced the appointment of Michael Thomson as head of sport for STW9, effective December 9.

The announcement:

David Mott, Channel Nine Perth Managing Director, today announced the appointment of Michael Thomson as Head of Sport for STW9, effective December 9.

Thomson returns to Channel Nine Perth where he worked for more than 25 years before leaving the station in 2011.

“I am delighted to welcome Michael Thomson back to Nine Perth,” Mr Mott said. “He is one of Western Australia’s most respected and trusted sports journalists and commentators.

“It was an easy decision to appoint Thommo as Head of Sport. Nine Perth is in his DNA and his knowledge of sport is impeccable. He will bring depth and experience to our sports team, and above all else he’s a great bloke.”

Thomson said: “It is terrific to be coming home to Channel Nine presenting sport again and I’ve always enjoyed working with Mark Readings and the talented Nine Sport team.

“Now that the Nine Network has acquired STW it couldn’t be a better time to return. I’m really looking forward to being part of the Nine team with David Mott at the helm

“Since leaving Nine in 2011, I was fortunate to be a member of the Nine Network team covering the 2012 Olympic Games in London, where I did commentary on the weightlifting.”

Thomson is resigning as Marketing, Sponsorship and Communications Manager for Surf Life Saving Western Australia to return to Channel Nine Perth.
