Microsoft reviews global creative and media accounts
Microsoft has called a global review of its roster of agencies, bringing into question the $25m portion of the business held by UM in Australia.
UM, owned by the Interpublic Group, owns the the bulk of the Microsoft business globally, while Microsoft works with Starcom MediaVest Group in the US.
In Australia UM holds the Microsoft account, worth $25m, as well as Microsoft XBox, according to Mumbrella’s sister publication The Source.
A Microsoft Australia spokesman said: “We regularly evaluate our agency mix as a business best practice to ensure we retain the services that best fit the needs of our evolving business.”
And a spokesperson for UM Australia said they are not able to comment at this stage.
MDC’s Crispin Porter and Bogusky is one of Microsoft’s lead creative agencies globally, while WPP Wunderman held substantial parts of the business in the UK, and Publicis Group’s Razorfish works on some of the global digital business.
Microsoft launched an Xbox app in partnership with Channel Ten in July.
A better approach for Microsoft would be to take a global review of their poor and technologically dated products.
