Microsoft appoints Marc Barnett to run digital advertising units

Microsoft has appointed Marc Barnett from Microsoft’s regional headquarters in Singapore to run new businesses the Microsoft Media Network and Microsoft Advertising Exchange.

Barnett has spent the past year in Singapore as the director of specialist sales for Microsoft Advertising Asia Pacific, but has been on secondment to NineMSN for the past three months, to launch the Microsoft Advertising Exchange.

“The initial results in the Microsoft Advertising Exchange have been positive from both a yield and ROI perspective,” said Barnett. “The level of interest from our clients post launch proves that this is the future of our industry and we are proud to be driving this change.”

Microsoft and Nine launched the Microsoft Advertising Exchange, an ‘online stock exchange for ads’ last month.

NineMSN CEO Britt told Mumbrella that NineMSN wanted to talk to rival Yahoo!7 about collaborating over its advertising exchange.

The Microsoft Media Network is third-party network that sells ads across sites including NineMSN, Windows Live, Bing, Cudo, iSelect, RateCity and the Microsoft Advertising Exchange.

Nine and Microsoft are gearing up for a period of heavy trade marketing activity next year around their new corporate brand Mi9, which covers all of Nine and Microsoft’s digital assets.
