MKR winner announcement drops half a million, but final episode up

The winner announcement for My Kitchen Rules was down by nearly half a million for Seven with a metro audience of 2.596m, down nearly half a million viewers from last year’s 2.952m, according to  preliminary overnight ratings.

However, the average for the grand final was up on last year’s episode, with 2.302m metro viewers tuning in compared to last years 2.154m.

The juggernaut reality show helped Seven dominate the night, more than doubling the 17.1 per cent audience share of Nine with 36.6 per cent. ABC1 was third for the night with a share of 12.3 per cent while Ten was fourth with 9.3 per cent.

Seven News dominated the news hour with the first half hour rating 1.231m before dropping to 1.190 at 6.30pm, while Nine News at 6pm attracted a metro audience of 1.171m which also dropped in the second half hour to an audience of 1.048m.

Home and Away at 7pm was the second most watched non-news program, delivering Seven a total metro audience of 1.099m in the half hour before the kick off of the grand final of My Kitchen Rules at 7.30pm, which ran for more than two hours. It out rated ABC News, which also airs at 7pm, which had a total metro audience of 951,000.

Ten Eyewitness News, which runs from 5pm to 6pm, had a metro audience of 661,000 while The Project had a metro audience of 422,000 in its first half hour, climbing to a metro audience of 507,000 in its second half hour.

Going head-to-head with MKR on Nine was a double-billing of The Big Bang Theory repeats, with the first episode watched by 893,000 metro viewers, growing to a metro audience of 897,000 for the second episode at 8pm. While at 8.30pm, Mom was watched by 677,000 metro viewers.

The ABC was third in the 7.30pm timeslot with 7.30 delivering the network an audience of 837,000 which dropped away at 8pm for Foreign Correspondent which was watched by a metro audience of 715,000.

Ten’s Jamie & Jimmy’s Food Fight Club struggled to gain an audience when pitted against the MKR grand final, with only 262,000 metro viewers tuning in.

Seven’s second episode of US cyber-themed action-adventure television series Intelligence saw a drop on its debut audience, with  697,000 tuning in at 9.50pm at the conclusion of MKR. Last weeks pilot episode on Wednesday night had an audience of 850,000 metro viewers

Across all the demographics, the announcement of the winner of MKR was the most watched show, with the grand final episode ranking second. Home and Away was ranked third across people 16-39 and people 18-49 while in the 25-54 demographic the second episode of The Big Bang Theory was third.

While across the younger demographics (16-39 and 18-49) the episode was ranked fourth, while across the 25-54 group Home and Away was in fourth place.

Intelligence was fifth-most watched show for those aged 16-39, while the first episode of The Big Bang Theory was the fifth-most watched program for the 18-49 and 25-54 demographics.
