The Monuments Men dominates weekend box office again

The Monuments Men has dominated the weekend box office for the second week in a row, bringing in a total of $1,714,813 across 329 screens and taking its total Australian box office to just over $5 million.

The film, directed by George Clooney who also starred alongside Matt Damon and Bill Murray and tells the story of a World War II platoon tasked to rescue art masterpieces from Nazi thieves and return them to their owners, trumped its closest competitor Disney’s Need For Speed by $756,301.

Need For Speed, which stars Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul made $958,512 across 320 screens, taking its total box office takings to $2.9 million.

The film, based on a computer game, tells the story of a street racer fresh from prison who was framed by a wealthy business associate and joins a cross country race with revenge in mind.

Ride Along,  starring Ice Cube, brought in $926,637 across 145 screens while Pompeii, starring Game of Thrones’ Kit Harington, bought in $643,461 across 175 screens.

Oscar winning 12 Years A Slave took its total Australian box office to over $7 million after bringing in $236, 114 across 164 screens.

The Wolf Of Wall Street continues to draw a crowd, taking $224,684 across 70 screens, taking its total Australian box office takings to nearly $23 million.
