SciencePopular Science:  Why We’re Shutting Off Our Comments – the American monthly magazine is switching off its comment thread arguing trolls were viewing reader’s perceptions of their coverage.

“Comments can be bad for science. That’s why, here at PopularScience.com, we’re shutting them off.

“It wasn’t a decision we made lightly. As the news arm of a 141-year-old science and technology magazine, we are as committed to fostering lively, intellectual debate as we are to spreading the word of science far and wide. The problem is when trolls and spambots overwhelm the former, diminishing our ability to do the latter.”


Ad Week: Did Mercedes Benz steal the chicken idea? – Adweek follows up their story from yesterday noting that Ogilvy did the same idea for Fujifilm in February.

“Was there a thief in the creative hen house? Ogilvy did a similar spot for Fujifilm back in February.”

The Guardian: Radio 1 to switch off the microphones and turn to Twitter – on Friday the radio station will go silent and instead use Twitter.

“Radio 1’s presenters will go silent on Friday as the station’s entire daytime line-up switch off the microphone and talk to the nation via Twitter.”

Ad Week: Barilla chairman vows never to make ads with gay people – the pasta maker said he would not use a same-sex family in its commercials.

“In recent years, LGBT imagery has been increasingly appearing in mainstream ads for major marketers. Italian pasta brand Barilla has apparently missed the memo.”
