Mumbrella announces award-winning journalist and writer Shannon Molloy as new editor

Shannon Molloy, former REA Group news editor, author of critically acclaimed books ‘You made me this way’ and ‘Fourteen’, and winner of the 2020 Mumbrella Publish Award for Journalist of the Year, has been announced as Mumbrella’s new editor.

Molloy

Molloy has a deep background in news journalism in Australia. Prior to his role at REA Group, he served as news editor for News.com.au as well as national entertainment reporter for News Corp Australia and content editor for Amazon Australia.

He will be based in Mumbrella’s North Sydney office and will start on Monday 8 May.

The appointment of Molloy comes after former editor Olivia Kruimel left to take up the role of PR and communications director at M&C Saatchi.

Molloy will lead Mumbrella’s team of journalists creating the daily news output across mediums and will play an integral role in the continual development of Mumbrella’s editorial products.

Molloy’s second book, ‘You made me this way’

Mumbrella editorial director Damian Francis said that Molloy’s hire would allow Mumbrella to go further than it had previously in the pursuit of leading the media and marketing news agenda.

“Shannon joining Mumbrella in the role of editor is an exciting step for the business,” he said. “Mumbrella has always led the daily news agenda. Having someone of Shannon’s calibre join the team allows us to do that even better, as well as explore new and interesting ways to deliver the news as well.”

“Opportunities like this come along once in a career – if you’re lucky,” Molloy said. “I’m so excited to be joining the team to help write Mumbrella’s new chapter. This is an iconic brand. I’m looking forward to enhancing the qualities that make it so great and that readers have come to depend on – rich and in-depth insights, the latest news as it happens, and a storytelling offering you simply can’t get anywhere else.

“But the best is yet to come. Watch this space.”

Molloy is the second significant hire for Mumbrella’s content team this year after former general manager of marketing at GPC, Diana Di Cecco, joined the team to lead the event content output.

Molloy will be contactable from Monday on smolloy@mumbrella.com.au. Mumbrella is also currently hiring for a reporter. Anyone interested is encouraged to apply here.
