what was the break down between the Gem and channel 9 coverage of the rugby? Was great to watch sport in hd again

Channel 9 commentary with Ray Hadley was appalling. He is a radio man for rugby league, not television and not union. The only thing more annoying than watching the Wallabies get belted was listening to Hadley fumble his way through the call.

Commentary was crap, and so were the 30 Swiss ad’s placed in 10sec breaks.
But lets remember, no ad’s = no sport!

Apparently someone at Nine said “call 2GB and get that rugby guy” and Ray Hadley answered the phone… but it was probably just as well – Alan Jones would have estimated the crowd size at 250,000 with millions more being stopped by police from getting in.
While Ray’s commentary wasn’t up to scratch, I was thankful he didn’t launch into a pro-pokies rant at halftime.

Channel 9 should be congratulated for their coverage of the Rugby World Cup – its obvious why they won the rights to broadcast this event… well deserved!
