New Dwayne Johnson film Skyscraper cracks $3m on first weekend but can’t beat Ant-man and The Wasp
Universal’s new film, Skyscraper, made more than $3m on its first weekend at the Australian box office, but wasn’t able to combat the dominance of Ant-man and The Wasp and Incredibles 2.
The new film stars Dwayne Johnson as a US war veteran and former FBI hostage rescue team leader framed for setting the world’s tallest building ablaze.
Across 460 screens, the film made $3.098m, however Ant-man and the Wasp earned $3.782m over the weekend on 536 screens. That brings the total to just over $13m for the two weeks. With school holidays still running, Incredibles 2 collected an additional $3.485m over 225 screens to take its total to $39.761m.
Hotel Transylvania 3: A Monster Vacation also performed well over the weekend, adding another $3.225m to total earnings.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, finished the week behind Skyscraper, making $2.666m across 392 screens. The film has now made $31.147m since its premiere on June 25.
