New Matilda says goodbye (but we might be back)
Comment website New Matilda today prepared to say goodbye to its readers as it reached its final day of online publication.
The site’s editor Marni Cordell announced a month ago that the because of faltering finances, New Matilda would stop publishing new material from today.
She said today that attempts to save the site had been unsuccessful although it might return in another format in the future.
The site also published a cartoon today featuring a sad Julia Gillard saying goodbye.
In an editorial headlined You Don’t Know What You’ve Got Till It’s Gone, Cordell said:
“Although today is the last day of publishing for newmatilda.com in its current form, we have plans to rise again. I, on behalf of the current staff, have negotiated to take control of the site and we will be working to raise enough money to re-launch. The site — its audience, archive and stable of writers — is too valuable to shelve for good.”
Is it just me or is publishing self-pitying cartoons about yourself all a bit sad?
