Newcastle council rolls out animated bins for household waste campaign

Newcastle Council has launched a campaign to inform the city’s 142,000 residents about a new three bin system for household waste to be introduced on July 4. The campaign, which features real-life council garbo Geoff McCudden and animated bins, was created by John Church Advertising.

The campaign involves TV, radio, newspaper, online, brochures and a DVD, to inform Newcastle residents to use the red bin for general waste, yellow bin for recycling and green bin for ‘green waste’, such as compost.

The agency’s founder, John Church, said: “Bringing the bins to life brings attention to the serious issue of increased recycling and green waste collection. Ensuring residents correctly use each bin is vital to help the council reduce the amount of waste going to landfill and avoid state government levies that councils must pay for waste disposal.”
