News continues to dominate ratings as MAFS remains #1 in entertainment

The nation’s appetite for news content saw flagship news programs continue to dominate the overnight television ratings, with the category making up seven of the top ten offerings on Tuesday.

Nine News (1.046 million), Nine News 6.30 (1.006 million) and Seven News (1.004 million) all aired to over a million metro viewers, as Nine won the night with a 32.3% network share ahead of Seven with 23.8%.

The ABC (18.3%) continued to perform ahead of Ten (17.7%), with ABC News taking 700,000 metro viewers. 7.30, which included Laura Tingle’s report on Scott Morrison’s apology for the cultural attitudes towards women in Parliament House that have developed under his watch, brought in another 610,000 metro viewers.

Those numbers kept up the momentum for the ABC after its Four Corners report on former Liberal Party staffer Brittany Higgins’ allegation of sexual assault by a colleague in parliament house drew 708,000 metro viewers on Monday night.

7.30’s report on the PM’s apology brought 610,000 metro viewers

Looking at entertainment programming, Nine’s Married at First Sight remains untouchable, racking up yet another episode with over a million viewers.

A total of 1.040 million metro viewers tuned in to watch various couples perform intimacy exercises, meet each other’s families and write each other unfiltered feedback letters.

Unsurprisingly, the program won all three key advertising demographics as well, across metro viewers.

Up against MAFS in the primetime 7:30pm time slot was Seven’s offering of Britain’s Got Talent – Best And Worse, which brought in 321,000 metro viewers, while Ten’s The Amazing Race Australia aired to 503,000 metro viewers.

Seven did manage the next best performing entertainment shows outside of MAFS, with Home And Away (568,000) and The Chase Australia (506,000) both cracking the top ten shows for the night in terms of metro viewers.

The top rating multi-channel for Tuesday was 7mate (with a 3.6% share), whose evening slate included back-to-back episodes of Highway Patrol in primetime, followed by Outback Opal Hunters.
