News Corp Australia releases campaign in support of National Reconciliation Week
News Corp Australia will be running a two week campaign in support of National Reconciliation Week across 16 of its metropolitan and regional mastheads.
Digital, half page and medium strip ads will appear across the newspaper titles, promoting this year’s theme ‘Grounded in Truth, Walk Together in Courage’.
Foxtel will also be airing a 30 second spot, enforcing the message that Australians need to face the truth about the country’s history after white colonisation.
The community service announcement features a vibrant animation created by full-service creative agency Gilimbaa. The work uses colour to show that the people from all walks of life need to come together to move forward in reconciliation.
Reconciliation Australia CEO, Karen Mundine said that the relationship between Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islanders and other Australians needs to be grounded in the truth about the past.
“Reconciliation is ultimately about relationships, and like all good relationships, the one between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and other Australians must be grounded in truth,” Mundine said.
“Truth telling is not about making anyone feel guilty or shameful, but about addressing past injustices and serving as an “end-point to a history of wrongdoing”, allowing for healing and relationships to strengthen.
“Whether you’re engaging in challenging conversations or unlearning and relearning what you know, this journey does require all of us to walk together with courage,” Mundine concluded.

Penny Fowler, News Corp Australia’s community ambassador and reconciliation working group chair, said: “We are proud to support Reconciliation Australia and National Reconciliation Week in an effort to build a better Australia for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and all Australians.
“At News, we believe Reconciliation is not primarily the business of corporations or even governments, it’s everybody’s business.
“This year’s theme highlights the importance of continuing our open and honest discussion of Indigenous issues. The courage it takes to face the truth and make a change should always be encouraged,” Fowler said.
