News Corp chair Michael Miller to appear in Seven’s Meta Exposed series

Seven is launching a seven-part documentary series that promises to dive deep “into the profound impact of Meta’s platforms on our lives and society”.

‘Meta Exposed: Secrets From Inside The Tech Giant’ is an interview series on 7NEWS.com.au and 7plus, and will feature insights from Meta whistleblower and former Facebook engineering director Arturo Bejar, News Corp Australia executive chairman Michael Miller, cybercrime analyst Paul Raffile, leading disinformation researcher Joan Donovan, and social media reform advocate Nicki Reisberg.

The series is available either as a vodcast or a podcast, and examines “whether we are facing genuine threats to our children and communities, rather than just moral panic.”

7NEWS Spotlight’s Michael Usher and Sarah Greenhalgh will host the interview series.

“What is going on deep within Meta that makes it resistant or slow to react to parents’ cries for help in protecting their children from harmful content and behaviour?” Usher said.

“We’re just starting to find out about the internal culture of Mark Zuckerberg’s social media juggernaut company. Insiders have told us about real concerns being ignored, and productive solutions to protect teen users especially being ignored also.

“We’ve interviewed a fascinating range of people with deep inside knowledge of Meta and hear their expert views on where Mark Zuckerberg is going wrong.”

Michael Miller

News Corp’s Michael Miller struck out at Meta and other social media giants during a Press Club address in June, proposing a “social license” to operate in Australia that would make these tech platforms “liable for all content that is amplified, curated and controlled by their algorithms or recommender engines”.

“We know the collective damage they cause – to our young and elderly, businesses – big and small, to our democracy, and to our economy,” Miller said.
