News Corp launches fifth PerthNow mid-week newspaper to celebrate Queen’s Birthday
News Corp is taking its digital masthead PerthNow into print for the fifth time, with the PerthNow mid-week newspaper available in IGA stores and McDonald’s from this afternoon.
The 40-page mid-week paper will be distributed to commuters, residents and businesses in the CBD as well as from seven IGA stores and from six McDonald’s stores, with 50,000 copies set to be distributed.
News Corp took PerthNow into print in January for an Australia Day edition, in March to mark Easter, in April to commemorate ANZAC Day, and in June to celebrate WA Day.
The ‘Queens’ Birthday special edition’ will provide the latest news, opinion and travel ideas as well as a guide to Spring, including recipes and a ‘how to guide’ on ways to cope with your health and allergies and a ‘what’s on’ and ‘where to go’ guide of activities taking place over the school holidays.
The Sunday Times editor, Rod Savage, said: “News Corp saw the the opportunity to tap into the mid-week mindset of the Perth commuter.
“It’s great to see Perth’s leading digital news provider extending its reach into a more traditional format mid-week.”
The stunt follows on from the Australian Consumer and Competition Commission (ACCC) approving a sale of Perth Now and The Sunday Times to Seven West Media.
There are plans for a sixth edition to celebrate Christmas, however, there are no current PerthNow mid-week newspapers scheduled after Christmas.
Presumably Perth Now will die when West Australian Newspapers take control of The Sunday Times …? Or will News Corp retain an online beachhead in the west?
