News Corp’s national Carsguide and Travel editors depart

News CorpThe editors of two of News Corp’s most lucrative advertising sections national travel editor Brian Crisp and Carsguide editor Paul Pottinger are to depart, Mumbrella understands.

It is understood that Crisp, who has been in the role of editing the important Sunday Escape travel sections across all News Corp Sunday newspapers for five years, has already left with his position currently being advertised, while Pottinger who edits the Carsguide is also departing.

A spokesman for News Corp said: “Brian and Paul have both elected to leave the company. We are sad to see them go, and wish them both the very best. Their departures are coincidental and are not part of any reorganisation of the national desk. Both roles will be replaced.”

Both men reported to executive editor of the News Corp national newsdesk John McGourty which coordinates content going across all of the publisher’s print and online properties.

The departures are the latest change at the News Corp national newsdesk, which was an initiative of former News CEO Kim Williams, and saw a significant numbers of reporters writing across mastheads and not reporting to individual state based newspaper editors.

Last year, Mumbrella revealed that News Corp had quietly wound back its national news desk returning key reporters in areas such as politics to their former mastheads.

Crisp and Pottinger’s departures come after the recent departure of deputy editor of the national newsdesk Anne Markey, who left to join Yahoo!7 as the head of editorial.
