News Corp’s head of sales in Victoria, Ash Sheard, departs

Ash Sheard – who for a period was acting executive general manager of network sales for News Corp, before the position was permanently filled by Lou Barrett – has resigned from the company.

When Barrett was promoted to the EGM role, Sheard returned to his position as general manager of network sales in Victoria.

Sheard joined News Corp almost 15 years ago as a key account manager, before becoming a group sales manager in 2005.

In 2007, he was promoted to deputy sales director in Melbourne and subsequently became sales director one year later.

He took on the general manager of network sales role for Victoria in 2015.

Last year, News Corp announced a number of leadership shuffles and executive changes, one of which saw the promotion of Barrett.

At the time, the company said it was attempting to streamline its sales operations, bring “national consistency” to its operating model and provide a “more aligned leadership structure” across its publishing assets.

“As a business, it is important we continue to review and assess how we work, and identify the opportunities, talent and expertise to help reshape our business for the future,” News Corp Australia’s executive chairman Michael Miller said at the time.

“In this role, Lou [Barrett] will have responsibility for all network sales, revenue, partnerships, key accounts and agency sales.”

News Corp confirmed Sheard’s departure to Mumbrella and wished him well.

“Ash has resigned from News Corp to pursue new opportunities and we wish him well for his future,” a spokesperson told Mumbrella.

News Corp’s plans for a replacement are not yet clear.

Sheard has been approached for comment.
