News Limited to become News Corp Australia
Australia’s largest publisher News Limited is to change its name to News Corp Australia.
The change comes 90 years after James Davidson created News Limited in 1923. It formed the foundation of the Adelaide-based empire that Sir Keith Murdoch bought into in 1949. Three years later, Rupert Murdoch inherited his father’s interests and began what was to become a global empire.
In a staff email, News Limited CEO Kim Williams, said the rebrand will take place from this Monday July 1.
News Limited’s owner News Corp split this month into two companies – ‘new’ News Corp and 21st Century Fox. The company’s Australian assets – including its news mastheads, Fox Sports and half share of Foxtel – sit within the new News Corp.
A rebranding has long been anticipated, in 2011 news website, Crikey got hold of a leaked document which showed the company was looking at branding News Australia.
The company has also launched an official Twitter account @newscorpaus.
The announcement:
Dear Colleague,
I’m pleased to announce that from 1 July our company will adopt a new corporate brand – News Corp Australia.
The brand will come into being to coincide with the launch of the new News Corp globally.
Our new brand and logo have been designed to support a more coherent and logical identity across the globe, and to emphasise the central part we play in the network of the best companies in the worlds of diversified media, news, education and information services.
As News Corp Australia, we will build on our heritage of world-class journalism and entrepreneurialism, taking risks and innovating in order to win.
News Corp Australia will continue to offer the best journalism, analysis and insight across all platforms and devices.
We will continue to put our customers, readers and advertisers alike, at the heart of all that we do.
We will work alongside our global News Corp colleagues to combine our extraordinary assets in boldly creative new ways, creating compelling products. We will reach new heights as we will continue to entertain, inform and educate many millions of consumers across the world.
Although News Corp Australia will come into effect next Monday, we will roll it out over the coming weeks and months, progressively updating collateral and signage in a staged approached.
With every good wish,
Kim

Didn’t they just have a major reshuffle of corporate brands last year? Didn’t News Ltd change to News Australia? What happens to the old logos?

Hi Jack,
That was the leaked plan, but it never happened. I suspect that the News Corp split changed the plan.
Cheers,

if the lettering is the logo, they even have a small element of ‘up and to the right’ in the uptick on the final letter of cursive. (long dead theory of corporate LOGO holds thats the winner)
