NGEN Charity Cup returns with new format

The Media Federation Australia’s (MFA) NGEN Charity Cup is returning in June, with Boomtown sponsoring.

The announcement:

The MFA’s NGEN Charity Cup is back after its Covid-19 postponement in 2020, with the goal of raising $20,000 for UnLtd charity partner Gotcha4Life .

Sponsored by Boomtown, the 2021 NGEN Charity Cup will take the form of a Media Feud – a mix of trivia as well as mental and physical challenges – rather that the Dodgeball Tournament of previous years. The theme of retro fitness will set the tone for the three separate events taking place in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane in June.

In addition to raising much-needed funds for charity, the NGEN Charity Cup provides an opportunity for members of NGEN – a community for those with less than five years’ experience in the media industry – to come together for a round of team work and networking with their peers.Competing teams are encouraged to contribute to the fund-raising goal through an NGEN raffle, with prizes donated by NGEN Charity Cup supporters, as well as their own fund-raising efforts within their agencies. Raffle prizes include two nights at luxury retreat Noonaweena on the NSW Central Coast, 10 x VIP Cinema Double Passes, two tickets to Hamilton the Musical, and many more.

The NGEN Charity Cup dates are as follows:

  • Melbourne: 3 June
  • Sydney: 10 June
  • Brisbane: 17 June

Gotcha4Life is a not-for-profit foundation raising awareness and funding to provide educational workshops and innovative programs that build mental fitness in individuals and communities. $20,000 would educate 500 individuals with the tools they need and a sustainable plan for managing their own mental fitness.

Melanie Aslanidis, the MFA’s Head of NGEN, said: “The NGEN Charity Cup is a meaningful project that makes a real impact on the work of our chosen charities and we are proud to be involved. For some of the newest members of the NGEN community, this year’s Cup will be the first time they’re coming together with their peers and we’re excited to see them make new connections and friendships.”

NGEN Brisbane Co-Chair and Senior Campaign Executive at oOh! Media Cassandra Nott added: “The Charity Cup is a highlight on the NGEN calendar so we’re thrilled to be able to go ahead this year. Following feedback from the NGEN community, we’ve steered away from a physical-focused challenge and opted for a more inclusive event to allow everyone to participate.”

The 2019 NGEN Charity Cup raised just over $20,000, with $15,000 going to BackTrack YouthWorks and $5,000 to Positive Humans Movement.

This is the 7th year the Cup is being held (first launched in 2014), having raised a total of more than $145,000 so far.
