Nick Kyrgios’ defeat proves a winner for Seven on Sunday night

Nick Kyrgios’ Australian Open defeat by Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov sent Seven to the top of the TV ratings charts, pulling in 1.165m metro viewers, according to OzTAM’s overnight preliminary metro ratings.

Over on Nine, Australia’s defeat during the third one day international at the Sydney Cricket Ground pulled in 976,000 metro viewers during session two and 841,000 during session one.

The tennis continued to dominate in the key advertising demographics, achieving first place across ages 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54.

Over on the multi-channels, the tennis yet again dominated, pulling in 275,000 metro viewers for 7mate.

The Australian Open helped Seven to a main channel share win, with 33.1%, while Nine managed 22.6%, ABC 8.9%, Ten 4.3% and SBS 3.5%.

Sunday’s next most-watched programs were Seven News with 1.107m viewers, closely followed by Nine news with 1.073m.

The battle of the sports continued over the rest of the weekend, with Kyrgios’ earlier win against frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga achieving 938,000 metro viewers to the cricket’s 734,000 on Friday.

Across the 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54 demographics, Kyrgios yet again proved a chart-topping hit.

On Saturday, Roger Federer’s defeat of Richard Gasquet pulled in 575,000, while the Big Bash League achieved 523,000.

In key advertising demographics 18-49 and 25-54, however, the Big Bash League topped the charts.
