Nick Unger rejoins SCA as Sydney’s head of TV sales after almost a decade with Nine

Radio business Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) has appointed Nine’s Nick Unger as its Sydney head of TV sales, following what it called an extensive search for the right candidate.

Unger began his career at SCA, but has spent almost 10 years with Nine, most recently as group business director leading the broadcast sales trading team.

In his new role at SCA, Unger will provide strategic direction to Sydney’s TV sales team and support national sales opportunities.

“We were dedicated to finding someone dynamic and strategic to lead our high-performing TV sales team. A key focus for Nick will be building and managing these teams, and an ability to work collaboratively across the board,” chief sales officer Brian Gallagher said.

“I’m thrilled that we have managed to lure Nick back to the SCA family. He has leveraged his intense enthusiasm and passion for TV and media into a career. He lives in the NBN market and will be a strong cultural fit and inspirational leader for the Sydney team.

“Nick’s is well-known for his ability to develop innovative cross-platform solutions and maximise revenue and market share. I’m sure he will be an outstanding Head of TV Sales for our Sydney team and help lead and nurture the best talent into the future.”

Unger will start in the role on 9 March, and noted the importance of the Boomtown initiative, which encourages media buyers and marketers to place a higher portion of their spend with regional media outlets,

“SCA is known in the market for having the best sales people in the industry,” Unger said.

“Being a resident of Boomtown myself, I’ve witnessed firsthand the potential for growth in regional Australia. I look forward to building on the great success of the TV sales team and the ongoing potential of the vibrant regional market.”
