Nickelodeon partners with Tourism and Events Queensland for Slime Cup try-outs

Nickelodeon has announced a strategic partnership with Tourism and Events Queensland to offer live tryouts on the Gold Coast for Slime Cup.

Following a hugely successful first season, Nickelodeon Australia’s award-winning original production SLIME CUP today announced a new strategic partnership with Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) to expand live tryouts for the series into the Gold Coast.

To celebrate the partnership Nickelodeon slimed Gold Coast Mayor, Tom Tate today at Sea World.

For first time Queensland kids will get the chance to take on Nickelodeon’s challenges to attest they have what it takes to be SLIME CUP contestants. 2017 live tryouts will be held on Sunday, 9 April at Sea World on the Gold Coast (9am – 4pm).

Minister for Tourism and Major Events Kate Jones said hosting the SLIME CUP live tryouts on the Gold Coast was another win for the local tourism industry.

“We are so excited to be partnering with Nickelodeon for this great family-friendly event,” Ms Jones said.

“Thousands of families are expected to tune-in when the series premieres in June, so this is a great opportunity for us to showcase one of our most popular tourist destinations to the entire country. We are looking forward giving Queensland kids the ultimate Nickelodeon experience right here on the Gold Coast this weekend.”

Kids from elsewhere across Australia and New Zealand will be able to upload audition videos via the website to receive one of the 15 coveted places on the show. SLIME CUP is open to all kids aged 9 – 13 in Australia and New Zealand. For a second year, live-try outs for NSW kids will be held at Westfield Mt Druitt, on Sunday, 23 April (9am – 4pm).

15 teams of superstar besties will be selected to compete in the Slime Arena and take on a series of larger-than-life inflatable challenges that will test their stamina, strength and stomachs to determine the final four teams. The finale episode will see these four teams compete on an all-new inflatable obstacle extravaganza to win the ultimate prize, the 2017 Nickelodeon SLIME CUP trophy.

SLIME CUP premieres at 5.30pm on Friday, 30 June 2017 and will feature expanded digital content, including the chance for kids to create their own SLIME CUP course online and opportunities for bespoke integration across multiple platforms.

In 2017 we’re going to bring kids crazier challenges, bigger spills, and even more ways for kids to get covered head-to-toe in slime.”

SLIME CUP achieved great success both on-ground and on-air in 2016, the ratings for the series outperformed channel average by 83% with Grocery Buyers and 25% of Children 5-12 on STV tuned into SLIME CUP 2016[1]. Digitally, SLIME CUP achieved almost 100,000 Unique Visitors over the course of the campaign and social impressions across Facebook reached over 3 million.

SLIME CUP 2017 will be hosted by two stars from one of Nickelodeon’s hit live-action show. 2016 host Kristy Best will join the US stars as the on-the-ground host, bringing viewers all the action and interviews from the sideline.

Registrations are now open and will close at midnight on Tuesday, 25 April.
