Nine dominates Wednesday night TV despite strong performance from The Bachelor and ABC
Despite strong competition from Seven’s news offerings, ABC’s entertainment line-up and The Bachelor in the key advertising demographics, Nine won Wednesday night thanks to The Block, Doctor Doctor and its news and current affairs programs.
The most-watched program was once again The Block, which had an average metro audience of 1.028m according to OzTAM’s overnight preliminary metro ratings. The Bachelor was the second-most-watched entertainment show of the night, in seventh place overall with 749,000 viewers.
A repeat of Shaun Micallef’s Mad as Hell was in ninth for the night thanks to an audience of 723,000 and Utopia rounded out the top 10 with 702,000.
The rest of the top 10 programs list was dominated by news and current affairs programs from Seven, Nine and the ABC.
Despite placing in second and third place for its news and current affairs offerings, Seven had no entertainment shows in the top 10. The network’s most-watched entertainment show was Home & Away, which came in at 12th after an average of 685,000 metro viewers tuned in. Border Security was in 13th with 668,000.
Ten’s Offspring was 19th overall for the night, with 568,000 metro viewers, but placed third behind The Block and The Bachelor in the key advertising demographics of 16-39s, 18-49s and 25-54s. The Block won 18-49s and 25-54s, while The Bachelor was on top across the 16-39s.
Nine’s strong performance left it with a winning 20.7% audience share, ahead of Seven’s 17.2%, Ten’s 14.2%, ABC’s 13.0% and SBS’ 5.5%.
