Nine locked out from Commonwealth Games after ‘mistake’ broadcasting ceremony rehearsal
Nine has said its broadcast of footage of the rehearsal of the opening ceremony of the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games was by mistake.
Sunday night’s Nine News broadcast of the footage from the rehearsal has resulted in Nine’s press accreditation for the event being suspended.
The opening ceremony takes place on Wednesday, with rival Seven as the domestic broadcaster.
A spokesman said: “An error was made in our news last night, we are in discussions with the Commonwealth games authorities to restore our accreditation and hope to have the situation resolved as soon as possible.”
Organisers have been attempting to keep the content of the ceremony under wraps to maximise its impact on the night.
That was a deliberate error that has backfired spectacularly.

Don’t restore Nine’s accreditation. If they pull these smart-arse stunts they deserve the consequences.

Of course they’re going to restore the accreditation. Sporting events need broadcasters far more than the other way round.
