Nine News Now at 3pm targets women
Nine has launched its new afternoon news show Nine News Now, airing at 3PM.
The hour-long show is hosted by Wendy Kingston.
Covering news, entertainment and panel discussions of the day’s topics but with limited sports coverage, the show is aimed at stay-at-home mothers and women over 55.
The first show asked in the feedback section online, ‘Are parents paying too much for pre-school fees?’
The first broadcast, airing this afternoon had a coup with an exclusive interview with Prime Minister Julia Gillard to discuss the developments surrounding the Tasmanian fires.
Nine Afternoon News will remain at 4.30pm until 5.30pm. Nine News at 6pm, and A Current Affair at 6.30pm.
I’m all for different ways to package and present the news, but I can’t see that this needs to be an hour long! Not only is that VERY stretched out, but surely a ‘stay at home mother’ will have the kids hurtling through the door not long after 3.30pm..? I’m sure a snappy 30 minute bulletin or even bulletin-cum-couchchat show would do the job.

Isn’t this all about generating low cost content? The journos are there. The automated camera is on. The production staff are in place for the afternoon editions…….so why not utilise existing resource to generate more repeated content?
Makes perfect cost control sence to me. Repackage & repackage for low incrimental cost. Genius! The accountants of the new bank owners will love it.

Jack – Sounds like a great idea,
Perhaps we could get a Daddo in to co-host???

I’m a mum and I’m not watching the news at 3pm. I struggle to watch it at 6pm. This time slot is bonkers.

There was a time when 3pm was reserved for kids coming back from school – kids cartoon programmes and light entertainment (Curiosity Show, Simon Townsend’s Wonder World, The Tomorrow People, Skippy, etc) was the order of the day. Now television stations are only interested in showing adult programmes, reality shows, and soaps. Have programmers forgotten about the kids?

Surely nobody regards Channel 9 capable of producing news? Sensationalism perhaps, but not news?

Oh that’s right…. 3pm and I’m just kicking back to watch TV. Does anyone there realise that is on school pick up time. Think networks need to live in the real world.
