Nine reveals Allison Langdon and Peter Stefanovic as new hosts of Weekend Today

Nine has announced a brand new line up for its Weekend Today show, with 60 Minutes reporters Allison Langdon and Peter Stefanovic to take the helm as co-hosts.

Last year, Weekend Today was run by co-hosts Tom Steinfort and Deborah Knight.

Knight announced her departure from Weekend Today in December while Tom Steinfort revealed he was leaving the show two days ago, to take up a full time role with 60 Minutes.

Steinfort joined Weekend Today a year ago, replacing Stefanovic who moved to 60 Minutes.

According to Nine, Langdon will continue in her role on 60 Minutes while Stefanovic will join the Nine News Sydney team, and contribute to 60 Minutes where possible.

Langdon said the opportunity was a “wonderful fit” with her 60 Minutes commitments.

“I’m really excited to be joining the Weekend Today team. Pete is a great mate and has been for many years. We both take our journalism very seriously but not ourselves. We have a lot of laughs together and I look forward to sharing that with our Today audience alongside Jayne, who is one of the best and hardest working journalists in the country,” she said.

Stefanovic said Langdon was the perfect addition to Weekend Today.

“To be asked back to co-host Weekend Today is a privilege, and it definitely feels like I’m returning home. I’ve known Ally for more than ten years. She’s a great journalist, smart and funny, and I look forward to working alongside her and Jayne.”

Nine Network’s director of news, Darren Wick, thanked Steinfort for his work and congratulated him on his new role.

He added: “What a team to wake up with every weekend. The dynamics and professionalism of Ally, Pete and Jayne guarantees a relaxed and warm start to your weekend, and I couldn’t be happier.”

The new appointments to Weekend Today follow the departure of long-standing weekday Today host Lisa Wilkinson last year. She joins Ten’s The Project in 2018 and will be executive editor of Ten Daily.

Wilkinson will be replaced by Georgie Gardner on the Today Show later this month.

Weekend Sunrise is also preparing for a new co-host, with Andrew O’Keefe exiting the role after 12 years.
