Nine the most watched network as Australia Unites raises $21m

Nine’s Australia Unites telethon – which raised more than $21m for victims of the Victorian bushfires – drew an average audience of 1.2m and a peak audience of just under 1.7m in the preliminary TV ratings for last night.

The evening saw Nine as by far the most viewed network of the night, although the numbers were probably a little lower than expected. However, the fourth placing of Australia Unites in the top  shows was partly because it was averaged across the whole evening and finished after midnight.

The most watched programme of the night was Seven News again, followed by Today Tonight.

Ten’s Life on Mars didn’t make the top ten and rated less than a million.

The night was anunusual one for shceduling because of the telethon, which earlier this week generated debate on whether Nine should keep its advertising revenue for the evening.

The top ten:

  1. Seven News 6:00pm – Seven 1.6m
  2. Seven News 6:30pm – Seven 1.6m
  3. Today Tonight – Seven 1.3m
  4. Australia Unites – Nine 1.2m
  5. Nine News – Nine 1.2m
  6. Home and Away – Seven 1.1m
  7. Law and Order: SVU – Ten 1m
