Nine waves the white flag for Tuesday’s TV ratings
Late changes to its schedule didn’t help Nine, which saw its ratings fall to an average of 658,000 for Adults Only Commercial Breakdown last night.
The network had another poor Tuesday, with an average share of just 20.8%, according to preliminary ratings from OzTam. Nine News and one of Nine’s three Two And A Half Men episodes were the only shows that made the top ten for the network.
The major beneficiary was Seven, with a share of 33% last night, followed by Ten with 25.3%. The ABC was on 16.2% and SBS 4.7%. Seven’s big ratings winner was Packed To The Rafters.
Tuesday night’s most watched TV shows:
- Packed to the Rafters Seven 1.9m
- Seven News Seven 1.6m
- Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation Ten 1.5m
- Today Tonight Seven 1.5m
- Surf Patrol Seven 1.4m
- Air Ways Seven 1.4m
- Home and Away Seven 1.3m
- All Saints Seven 1.2m
- Nine News Nine 1.2m
- Two and a Half Men – 7:00pm Nine 1.2m
- ABC News ABC 1.2m
- A Current Affair Nine 1.1m
- NCIS – 9:30pm Ten 1.1m
- Grand Designs ABC 1.1m
- NCIS – 8:30pm Ten 1.1m
Are we all underestimating just how much trouble Nine is in? The ratings are diabolical and the programming decisions worse. With the recent spate of program axings, perhaps we have all got used to it but surely we’re in new territory of trouble for Still the One as there seems to be no sign of where any positive numbers might come from and Two and Half men can’t be shown all day.

Oh what a pity. The “Once Great Unassailable And Untouchable ” NINE is going from bad to worse. And this happening after all of its ‘shots’ against other commercials; particularly SEVEN. What a beautiful sight to see; the Packer-less NINE, led by “up-themselves arrogant SH- – -” being pounded into the ground; Kerry (again) and olde Sir Frank would rise from the grave if they knew.
The way in which they change progarmmes with barely a moment’s notice does not only the public a dis-service. WHAT ABOUT ADVERTISERS; the “bread and butter” of their raison detre.. Oh well, there is an olde but quite precise saying; ” you get what you dish out”, and just maybe THE NINE NETWORK is paying the price for its supreme arrogance for all those decades.
PS: “When are the VC investors going to change the top management”; that is the question the whole industry is asking.

So this is why they want to put Hey Hey Its Saturday on Tuesday nights…
Personally I think a two hour live variety/comedy show on a Tuesday would be a fabbo idea – I’m just not sure Hey Hey is the vehicle. At least Somers Carroll will have a better shot at success than something developed in house – Nine couldn’t direct shit through an S-bend at the moment, although they appear to be trying.
An expensive idea either way though.

I believe that the 9 Network has been the leader in TV & TV ratings for such an extended period of time because their ‘instinct’ for programs that appeal to Australians was consistently accurate. is it true that, the recent management and programming people continue to believe their (past) PR spin?
I also believe that they do NOT have the financial &/or intellectual firepower to mount a meaningful case (and program innitiatives) to win back disaffected viewers! resulting in their ‘sales’ softening; another impact of their accelerating demise from their former leading position within the marketplace. who can become the transformational leader to drive a new, competitive, 9 Network?
