Nine’s Married at First Sight UK only pulls in 569,000 on debut as The Block wins night

Married at First SightThe debut of Married at First Sight UK on Nine at 8.45pm last night has proven less popular than its Australian iteration which aired earlier this year, with the show only pulling in 569,000 metro viewers.

The debut of the Australian version of the show in May this year was watched by 1.134m.

It was out-rated by Ten’s Have You Been Paying Attention? which was watched by 575,000 from 8.30pm while both shows beat Seven’s showing of a repeat of The Big Bang Theory at 9pm which was watched by 560,000. In September Seven announced it had poached the first seven series of the US sitcom while Nine retained the rights to any new episodes.

Seven’s chief programmer Angus Ross told Mumbrella: “The Big Bang Theory provides demographic certainty for Seven. It will ensure we have Australia’s biggest digital channels and will give 7Mate unprecedented demographic dominance.”

Meanwhile earlier in the evening, Nine’s The Block was the most-watched non-news show of the evening, pulling in 1.078m at 7.30pm. It beat Seven’s The X Factor which was watched by 1.028m while Ten’s The Biggest Loser Families only managed to grab 499,000 metro viewers.

The Block was the most-watched show across the key advertising demographics (16-39, 18-49 and 25-54).

On pay-TV the final audience tally for the Wallabies v Scotland Rugby World Cup quarter final thriller was 163,000 national viewers for the 2am AESDT kick off. The Walking Dead continued to pull a strong audience on FX with 65,000 tuning in.

Seven just managed to win the night with an audience share of 19.9 per cent, just ahead of Nine’s share of 19.8 per cent. The ABC claimed third place with a share of 17.1 per cent while Ten settled for a share of 11.5 per cent.

On the ABC, last night’s Four Corners which investigated the relationship between Fair Work Commission official Michael Lawler and union whistleblower Kathy Jackson was watched by 855,000 metro viewers in the 8.30pm timeslot.

7.30 pulled in 852,000 metro viewers, Australian Story at 8pm was watched by 817,000, Media Watch had an audience of 752,000 at 9.20pm and Q&A grabbed 575,000 at 9.30pm.

The news hour was won by Nine News, with its 6.30pm broadcast watched by 1.091m after 984,000 tuned in at 6pm. Seven News at 6pm was watched by 1.037m, dipping to 989,000 at 6.30pm.

In the breakfast battleground, Seven’s Sunrise was watched by 310,000 just beating Nine’s Today Show which saw 305,000 tune in.
