NITV appoints Kyas Sherriff as senior commissioning editor
Kyas Sherriff has been appointed senior commissioning editor at NITV.

NITV announces the appointment of Kyas Sherriff as Senior Commissioning Editor
NITV has announced the appointment of Bundjalung woman Kyas Sherriff as its new Senior Commissioning Editor.
Kyas brings extensive experience in the screen sector to the role at NITV, including most recently as the Head of Indigenous at the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS), and prior to that as the Indigenous Investment Development Manager at Screen Australia.
Tanya Orman, NITV Channel Manager, said Kyas will be a great asset to the NITV team: “Kyas is widely recognised and respected for her commitment and passion for representation in the screen sector. She brings an innovative approach, authentic voice and genuine commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples storytelling which connects to the heart of who we are at NITV, and all that we’re trying to achieve as Australia’s dedicated Indigenous broadcaster. We’re thrilled to have Kyas join us.”
Kyas has worked alongside and supported leading and emerging Indigenous practitioners for more than a decade.
As an Executive, Kyas formed the first Indigenous Unit at AFTRS which later led to their largest ever intake and graduation of Indigenous practitioners. Her work there has also brought more Indigenous protocol knowledge and talent to the wider screen sector with the establishment of Black Talks. While at AFTRS, she also oversaw the introduction of the school’s first ever Elder in Resident program.
Her notable credits at Screen Australia include developing NITV’s TV Week Logie Award winning children’s animated series, Little J and Big Cuz, as well as cinematic masterpiece, Sweet Country.
On her appointment, Kyas said: “”NITV plays such a vital and unique role in the Australian media landscape, giving an authentic voice to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Kyas will join NITV in late November.
