Nova and Jetstar attempt world record with ‘Flight of the Comedians’ stunt

DMG Radio’s Nova 100 station has teamed up with Jetstar for a world record attempt to hold the ‘World’s Highest Comedy’ show as part of the radio station’s promotion of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Nova breakfast presenter Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes and comedians Dave Thornton and Des Bishop will perform stand-up comedy for Jetstar passengers on a flight this Friday in a bid to get in the Guinness Book of Records.

David Koczkar, Jetstar executive manager commercial, said: “As far as we know it’s a first for an airline to provide live stand-up comedy on board a commercial flight – we thought it would be a unique way to mark the start of one of the biggest and most famous comedy festivals in the world, and maybe set a world record in the process.”

The stunt dubbed “Flight of the Comedians” will go ahead on March 26, in a flight from Sydney to Melbourne.

Prior to his flight, Hughesy and Nove 100 co-host Kate Langbroek will hold their annual Melbourne International Comedy Festival outside broadcast on Friday at the Lower Town Hall in Swanston St Melbourne, featuring comedians from the festival.

The radio station, which is a media sponsor of the annual comedy festival for the fourth year running, last year signed a content deal to provide three radio channels on board all Jetstar aircrafts.

The Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s other media partners are The Age, Channel 10 and 774 ABC Melbourne.

Meanwhile, Jetstar this week announced plans to divert 40 per cent of its marketing budget into social media.
