Nova Entertainment launches branded ‘The Player’ listening apps

Nova Entertainment has launched a new listening app, The Player, for audiences to access Nova radio stations and podcasts across its audio content ecosystem.

The new centralised listening location will give Nova listeners access to radio, streaming, DAB+ digital stations, news services, podcasting, as well as Nova’s Red Room performances.

The Player has launched in various iterations, representing Nova’s suite of brands, including The Nova Player and The Smooth Player for content from the Nova Network and Smooth Network.

Additionally, there is The FIVEaa Player for audiences of Adelaide’s commercial talkback station, and The Star 104.5 Player for content from Nova’s NSW Central Coast radio station.

“The Player represents a natural progression for Nova Entertainment as a business, in response to the growing audience appetite for on-demand audio, including consuming radio content via digital channels,” Nova Entertainment told Mumbrella.

Coming soon as well is the Nova Podcast Player, which will act as a hub for all original and partner content within the newly launched Nova Entertainment Podcast Network

“The Player is designed to make it easy for our listeners to not only access the content they love, but also discover more of it – on demand, wherever they are,” Nova Entertainment said.

The launch of the new app offering follows Mumbrella’s recent chat with Nova’s head of podcasts and digital content, Rachel Corbett, in which she said the company aren’t looking “to change listener behaviour” but instead wants to be “where the listeners are”.

“…we don’t expect that everybody’s going to come and listen on our app,” she said at the time. “From our perspective, people are going to listen to how they like to listen.”

Southern Cross Austereo (SCA), has launched the LiSTNR app to funnel audiences onto the platform, so that it can provide SCA with “an unrivalled, deep understanding” of the audience.
