Now Australia appoints three new directors to its board

NOW Australia has appointed three new Directors: Alicia Chisholm, Dion Pretorius, and Irene Yu.
We are delighted to announce the addition of these three highly qualified individuals to the NOW Australia Board who bring their broad range of skills and experience including across finance, law, and engagement,” Chair LJ Loch said. “It is so important for NOW Australia to have a strong leadership team to enable us to maintain the positive momentum catalysed by #metoo, particularly as we anticipate the next phase of the National Inquiry into Sexual Harassment in Australian Workplaces.
Alicia Chisholm, a Victorian Government Prosecutor, has represented many victims of workplace sexual harassment over her career. Her volunteer experience is extensive and includes One Girl Australia as a Business Administrator assisting the Board Director, Young UN Women Australia Melbourne Committee as an Executive Board Member and Events Organiser, and the United States National Committee UN Women Los Angeles Chapter as an Internship Coordinator and Community Partners Coordinator where she assisted in organising the first Los Angeles #HeForShe community event. Alicia is currently a founding Board Member of the North American Australian Lawyers Alliance.
After completing her legal studies in a Master of Laws Juris Doctor at Monash University in 2014, Alicia worked in civil litigation in Los Angeles, while completing a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice online at Australian National University. Alicia obtained further legal experience in military criminal defense, civilian defense contract disputes, federal law appellate litigation and special immigrant visa applications at a law firm specialising in federal law in Washington D.C. Alicia received a Public Interest Scholarship from Themis Bar Review and passed the New York Bar Exam in February 2017.
Irene Yu has over 20 years’ experience as a qualified accountant and corporate banker with international and domestic banks across multiple industries. Irene is responsible for Bank of Melbourne’s Migrant and Multicultural division. She leads a culturally diverse team that connects people, trade and capital, making sure clients have access to the right specialists for their personal and business banking needs. Irene develops cross-border relationships to help Victorians make the most of the opportunities in the Asia Pacific region. Prior to her current role, Irene was a Relationship Director in Bank of Melbourne’s Corporate & Commercial business, leading a multi-lingual team providing holistic banking solutions to customers of Asian heritage, and Australian businesses with a focus on Asia.
Dion Pretorius’ passion is making a positive change in people’s lives through strategic storytelling, and he has been involved in the growth of a number of organisations in the not for profit sector. He is currently Communications and Policy Manager for Science & Technology Australia (STA), with previous roles at the Australian Academy of Science, veterans’ charity Soldier On, and the National Folk Festival. Drawing from his years of nurturing and growing communities online, and communicating with members, fundraisers and donors across multiple platforms, Dion is known for his use of analytics and data to make the most of limited resources. He also works to ensure Australian policy is informed by evidence and the latest discoveries in science and technology. He has a consultative and collaborative approach, unifying groups to strengthen advocacy campaigns and connecting them to decision makers to improve policy outcomes.
“We would like to thank Avril Henry, Tasneem Chopra and Nareen Young for their considerable, passionate and valued contribution to NOW Australia and our fight to end sexual harassment in the workplace,” LJ said. “We know from our own experiences, our shared experiences and the extensive research that has been undertaken that current structures and mechanisms simply aren’t working. With one in three Australians subjected to sexual harassment in the workplace, it’s time for change.”
The current board is Alicia Graham, Dion Pretorius, Erica Lovell, Irene Yu, Katherine Teh, Katrina Irawati Graham, LJ Loch, Milly Petriella, and Sara Mansour. The board has an annual rotation of three members.
